Turning Red (2022) - Review

“Omg, this film talks about periods! Stop forcing woke down our-“ Shut up. The film undeservedly got hit by all this toxic bs, and I couldn’t be happier to report that this film is great. This is relatable, funny, and heart-warming tale of a girl hitting panda puberty. The allegory is obvious, but it works with this story and is surprisingly multi-faceted. The animation style also stands out compared to the rest of Pixar’s catalogue. It takes an anime inspiration from its facial expressions and extreme close-ups. Its energy as well is very classic anime, fast paced and the highest of emotions all time. But that style works here, because when you are 13, everything is the highest of emotions! Add on some pretty good jokes and a surprising third act, and Turning Red becomes one of the best animated films of this year.
