Heat (1995) - Review
I’ve finally watched Heat for the first time, which I know, blasphemous, but I gotta say… Why didn’t I watch this sooner!!! This film is incredible, in every aspect possible. The direction is on point; Michael Mann knows how to build tension, and know the perfect moment for the suspense to reach its height. It’s satisfying no matter the scenario, bet it the biggest street shootout ever put to screen or the two rivals meeting for coffee. The coffee scene shows off another amazing aspect of this film, the acting. Out of what I’ve seen so far, this is the best Robert DeNiro performance, and this is definitely the best Al Pacino performance. The latter has such a presence throughout every scene, and you’re glued whenever Pacino’s in the frame. The writing here is also stellar, as these two rivals’ lives mirror themselves in captivating ways, and shows the toll obsession can take on someone’s life. Everything else is brilliant as well, beautiful cinematography, supporting performances, the editing! Like this movie is 3 hours long and I could’ve watched another 3. This is the contemporary crime film to beat all contemporary crime films, what else can I say?
