Spencer (2021) - Review

Not only is Spencer a great showcase for Kristen Stewart, but it’s a showcase on how stress, betrayal and expectations can destroy a woman. As said before, Kristen Stewart is phenomenal as Princess Diana, she nails the feeling of bottling up all of your emotions, all on the cusp of explosion. The story does an excellent job showing how Diana’s environment shaped her to be this way, with security everywhere and every choice being decided for her, it’s a literal nightmare. The script also makes the great choice to just focus on a couple days in Diana’s life, allowing for a more natural arc instead of cramming her whole life into 2 hours. The below the line aspects like the cinematography and the score are equally beautiful, creating a stunning paradox that makes awe at its beauty and makes you anxious at the same time. Some may claim that that film is too artsy, but that just means it’s good… and succeeds in doing exactly what it set out to do.
