Ms. Marvel (2022) - Review

Ms. Marvel succeeds in not only telling a coming of age story, and a superhero origin story, but an immigrant story as well. Themes of identity are extrinsic to the coming of age, and for many second generation immigrants, that issue is prevalent. Ms. Marvel explores this subject in the best way possible; truthfully and from their point of view. Kamala is instantly relatable, played wonderfully by Iman Vellani, as she learns accept herself, finds her identity, deals with teenage problems, and saves the day. The series is so much fun to watch, as the filmmakers use creative tricks to make this tale stand out compared to other superhero stories. From camera movement, clever utilization of visual effects and moments of humour, the series does whatever it can to stay unique. The show still suffers from the Marvel T.V. show problem, as there is simultaneously not enough meat structurally for a full season of television but too much being explored at times to get properly invested. But overall, this is still one of the better Marvel T.V. shows, and I hope more people give this heartfelt series a chance.
