Looper (2012) - Review

I think this deserves a rewatch. Looper is a fantastic sci fi film that uses a unique structure to draw you into the story. I love Rian Johnson's direction, it’s so smooth and old school. I just love how fast the pacing is, how focused it is on characters rather than big spectacle. And I love how he just uses the camera and the editing to put together such a great package. I love how the script evolves over time. At the beginning, it's like a day in the life of this looper. Then it moves on to this cat and mouse with old Bruce Willis and young Bruce Willis. And then by the end, it's a family drama. I love how it evolves, and it keeps you interested throughout. And I love how practical everything is shot like the time travel special effects in this is literally just a cut. They just cut and he appears. It's so effective and simple. I love it. The themes the film discusses here about love, about potential, about the future is so investing and so well-done. And it really hit me how well-constructed this film was on a entertainment level, on a thematic level, on a character level, and on a technical level. This is probably my third or fourth rewatch of this movie, and this solidifies the fact that Rian Johnson is one of my favorite filmmakers.
