Don’t Worry Darling (2022) - Review

Don't Worry Darling is interesting, to say the least. First off, let's start with the good. The performances, for one, are excellent. Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde are all fantastic. The production design as well is really fantastic. It uses this fifties theme to great effect and it just adds a great esthetic to the movie that just enhances it much more. The other thing I really liked was Olivia Wilde direction. I thought there were some great moments, like one later on with exploding light bulbs that were just really, really interesting visually. And there's some great montages and editing that just make the movie just way more exciting to watch. Look, I got to talk about them. Everyone's talking about him. Everyone saying if he's good, if he's bad, Chris Pine's character is so underutilized. They give him some great depth in the middle of the movie, but then by the end, he's just wasted to give a sequel bait. It's so infuriating. There's so many loose ends, too, that just end up disappointing you so much. You feel like oh, your finally revealed what the concept is, and you're excited for them to delve deeper. But by the end it's just, oh, that's what it is. Okay. And that's really the biggest issue. Yes. Harry Styles is stilted in this part. And yes, I do think another actor would have served this role better. But really, it's not him is the issue. It's more the role. Not only do they spend half the time building up Chris Pine, they don't spend that time building up Harry Styles. So by the end, you're unsatisfied on both people. It's really frustrating. I think the drama and the things that this film does poorly are going to overshadow what the film does good, which is a shame, because overall I think this is a really good package.
