I Saw the Devil (2010) - Review
I Saw The Devil isn’t for the faint of heart. If you can stomach some gruesome gore and violence, you’ll find a film that’s poignant and masterfully crafted. Jee-won Kim uses every tool in his director’s toolbox, to make the actions scenes flashy, the tension and suspense high, and the gore… well gory. This film is brutal, but it never crosses the line into exploitation. On the contrary, as the film goes along, the storytelling becomes more nuanced, exploring how revenge and grief can be a deadly combination. The performances also help with the nuance, as each performer inhabits their role so well. Some plot contrivances aside, this film is a brilliant revenge film with masterful direction and storytelling that leaves you stunned by the end.
