Beverly Hills Cop (1984) - Review

This is a pretty good Eddie Murphy vehicle, that shows that not only does he have the laughs, but he can pull off the action too. That truly is the biggest surprise for me. I’ve always heard that this movie is hilarious, and Eddie Murphy delivers. But he really pulls off this role of a street smart cop who knows his way around an action scene. His chemistry with the other police officers is great too, with well-written banter and good performances. The action is pretty good too, Mike Ehrmentraut blasting a shotgun is always great. The filmmaking itself was pretty standard, but the biggest problem for me was the music. Every time Axel does anything, the short techno tune plays, and it so repetitive that it makes you want to rip your ears out. Overall though, this proves that Eddie Murphy is a star that can handle both action and comedy, and it’s a good time as well
