Atlanta: Season 3 (2022) - Revew
This show delivers another beautiful and unique season of television, utilizing anthological structure more than ever before. I think some trouble I had with the second season was that it left behind some of the characters to focus on new storylines. Well, season 2 is just the warm up, because season 3 ditches some of them entirely. But I don’t mind. The storytelling throughout each episode is humorous, thought-provoking, and subversive, creating an experience uniquely Altanta. Uniquely black. That’s what the series wanted to be all along, and with this season, it fulfils its purpose. Not all episodes are as impactful, but everything else about the show makes up for it. The direction is as stellar as ever, purposeful framing, lighting, and composition that rivals film. Acting across the board is fantastic, but the highlight for me was Brian Tyree Henry, who gets a lot of screen time in this series. He has become the main character of the show in many sense, dealing with identity, creativity, and racial tensions. It’s engaging every episode, and the entire team involved should be proud of what they created. I don’t know what to expect next, and I don’t want to.
