The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019) - Review

The Peanut Butter Falcon is a beautiful, witty, and sweet film featuring a great return to form performance from Shia Labeouf. The film’s beautifully shot, with great vistas that capture the beauty of the swamps, docks, and beaches the characters visit. The direction is great as well, centring on the characters and their rapport. Speaking of characters, they are carried by the performances. Not just Shia, but Zack Gottsagen and Dakota Johnson are fantastic, giving depth to their characters that the screenplay only hints at. Not to say that the script is bad; it’s solid. Even if by the end, it feels a bit by-the-numbers and doesn’t reach the heights it was aiming for. However, this is such a sweet an heart-warming film that any short comings in terms of story are entirely forgivable.
