Death on the Nile (2022) - Review
This murder mystery continues the series trademark of incredibly poor pacing and awkward theming. First off, the good. Most of the performances are great, especially Emma Mackey who does an excellent job as the estranged ex-lover. The new setting allows for more interesting blocking and camera work that looks more appealing than the first and more interesting on a creative level. As for the negatives… the mystery is obvious! I guess who the culprit of the murder from the opening scene due to the chemistry of the actors! You could say this is a good thing, as keen eye viewers would only notice the first time through. I would agree that isn’t true because you have Gal Gadot acting in the scene. The direction in that scene and the film throughout is obvious. The pacing is once again horrible, the murder doesn’t happen until an HOUR IN! IN A TWO HOUR MOVIE. It’s so boring, obvious, and incredible confused in its themes about love. You know it’s not a great sign when they give more backstory to Poriot’s moustache than most of the characters.
