Prey (2022) - Review
Prey is the follow-up Predator has asked for since the original came out, and as it goes along, it gets better and better. The film benefits from the start from its unique setting. Seeing this film in the seventeen hundred’s from the point of view of a Comanche tribe is an inspired choice, delivering a fresh perceptive compared to other films in its ilk. Naru is instantly the underdog in this environment, in both her tribe and when facing the Predator, and it makes you instantly root for her. Amber Midthunder gives a great performance as Naru as well, along with the rest of the cast. The first half isn’t super engaging, as the mystery of Predator is absent due to the past films, but as soon as Naru and the Predator collide, the film is a non-stop thrill. Continuous action sequences, full of carnage, great choreography and payoffs galore. It ends with one of the best 1v1’s I’ve seen, plus a tomahawk tied to a rope! I couldn’t recommend this movie enough.
